"Girls just wanna have fun"

Hello everyone

Hope you are all well.

Time is just flying! We're in our 4th month of being away and yesterday we sadly said goodbye today to Sarah and Abigail after 10 days of fun with them. It was so nice to see faces from home and share a bit of our life here as well as catching up on news from back home.

Much randomness and hilarity was had, especially Sarah’s growing obsession with buying the ‘perfect conch shell’ – is it too white, too pink, not spiky enough… the pinnacle of the obsession was felt when a couple of days ago we were diving, and amidst the schools of beautiful fish she was silently pointing to conch’s on the floor and giving the ‘ok’ sign in diving… I think if Abi had been there she would have cut her air supply right then and there! Ha ha, it was so funny. Conch is now a bad word in our household! And as much as I hate to say it, I will miss her going on about it!

The last 2 weeks has consisted of an afternoon tea party with the cong at chez Manning, where in the rush to bake the cakes the night before I lit the oven after 10 minutes of the gas being on (I thought I had lit it 10 mins previously but it had obviously gone out) to which the oven went BOOM, the girls SCREAMED, my eyelashes SINGED an the hair on my arms went ‘SSSSSS’. Needless to say that my hand was in a bowl of icy water for the following few hours – so Sarah was nursing her burnt ankles after a day of sun absorption, I was unable to stir or bake due to my hand, Brett was fishing…. So the only able bodied one, not complaining was Abigail, who retrieved the cooking helm and continued the serious ‘bake off’ – Brett came home from fishing to a warzone - Sarah laid back in her chair with swollen red ankles, me with my hand in ice, a pavalova that had caught alight… and must have thought what on earth?! I think has vowed never to let me near the oven again, especially when he looks at my blistered fingers which are wrapped in mummy-like plasters!

So we took the girls to Caye Caulker, where we laid on a half collapsed wall jutting out into the sea, and sipped on frozen cocktails in between snorkeling. The water was lovely, and the colours – well the pics speak for themselves. We ate dinner there and we had barracuda for the first time which was yum.

We also hired bikes (I have my own now – with a basket – very exciting) and went up to the North part of the island where you basically ride along the beach and stop for cocktails along the way. We found this brilliant bar/restaurant called Rojos about an hour and a halfs ride from where we live and lunched with cocktails overlooking the water. It was one of those afternoons you want to bottle.

A couple of days ago as mentioned we went diving – Brett had already done it here, but its been 7 years since I dived so I needed a little refresher, and so did Sarah so we did it together with a brother in the cong who is the oldest dive master on the island. After a series of equipment malfunctions we finally got out onto the reef. We were both freaking out about one of the under water exercises so it was nice to be doing it together at the same time. On the dive after, I saw… a Turtle… finally! I’ve been wanting to see a Turtle here since we arrived as the last time I saw one was 7 years ago - but I’ve always missed out here when people have seen them, so this time to my surprise when we first ducked under, we saw it – a big one, and it was in a light patch of water – so the sun was beaming through lighting up the beautiful colours on its shell –another moment!

Brett took us out onto the pier when the girls first arrived and they did some hand line fishing – Abi was brilliant at it and caught a snapper and a grunt. We cooked up the snapper when we got inside which was yummy.

So we’ve had a lovely time with the girls and it was sad saying goodbye at the dock this morning, but we do have some great memories that we’ll always remember.

Thanks girlies.

Over and Out for now,

Love,

Mummy fingers x
